Duties and responsibilities

• Instruct apprentices when required
• Repair, resurface and replace worn or damaged sections of concrete structures
• Operate power vibrators to compact concrete
• Prepare granular sub-base
• Level top surface concrete according to grade and depth specification
• Fill hollows and remove spots on freshly poured concreate (parging)
• Apply hardening and sealing components to cure surfaces
• Check formwork, granular base and steel reinforcement materials and direct placement of concrete into forms or onto surfaces according to grade
• Impart desired finish to concrete surfaces using hand and power tools (power trowels)
• Shovel cement and other materials into cement mixers
• Spread concrete and asphalt on road surfaces using shovels, rakes and hand tampers
• Concrete products forming and finishing worker specific skills- position reinforcing rods or wire mesh in moulds
• Participate in daily site safety meetings
• Work in compliance with Internal OHS policies
• Other duties which may be assigned by Operations Manager on a project to project basis

Qualifications

Qualifications include:

• Secondary (high school) graduation certificate
• A minimum of 3 years of experience is required
• Valid Drivers License
• Current WHMIS, WAH (Working at Heights)
• Team Player with flexibility
• Previous experience in residential and commercial construction
• Strong work ethic and detail orientated (accuracy)
• Cleanliness and organization
• Ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines

Working conditions

This position requires the employee to work indoor/outdoor. Employee must be able to kneel, bend, stand for extended periods of time.  Possess a valid driver’s permit and the ability to work odd/ extra hours to accommodate project deadlines.  Due to the nature of this position an enhanced reliability screening will be conducted prior to employment

Physical requirements

Position requires high levels of mental acuity, physical ability to lift and carry up to 50lbs on a regular basis, ability to sit/stand for extended periods of time, occasional exposure to inclement weather may be required.
